When you hear the words “Mandarin Oriental”, you’re immediately transported in your mind to a place of elegance and luxury. The Mandarin Oriental Macau is no stranger to luxury and elegance, having spent 15 years magnificently towering over Macau’s glorious skyline and hosting impressive guests from around the world. It is the only 5-star hotel in Macau that does not have a casino and is not connected to a casino, which we found to be personally refreshing and really made our visit feel extra luxurious.
Stepping into the Mandarin Oriental Macau felt like stepping into a sophisticated yet extremely comfortable home. We had been graciously invited to the hotel for a few nights to celebrate the hotel’s 15th birthday, and while the hotel was the star of the show for the weekend, we were all made to feel like very special VIPs. The hotel, part of One Central, calls home inside a stunning glass building that reveals the Macau waterfront in its reflections. There’s no such thing as a bad view at the Mandarin Oriental Macau.
Our Room
Our massive deluxe lake view room proved to be the perfect spot for the beau and I to call home for the weekend celebrations. As we had just officially purchased our new home and were in the beginning stages of renovations, I was finding myself getting decor ideas from our own Mandarin Oriental quarters. With a view of Nam Van Lake and the Macau Tower, I found myself frequently laying back in our elegant arm chairs with a cup of tea as I admired the view. And when it was time to take a bath? The view stayed with me. And so did the tea. I travel a lot for a living, and I’ve had the privilege of staying in many hotels around the world, but only a few have ever really felt more like “home” than “hotel” for me, and Mandarin Oriental Macau definitely felt like a home.
After an evening in St. Lazarus Quarter and a morning in Grand Coloane, we decided to slow down for the afternoon and take a refreshing, cooling dip in the hotel’s rooftop pool. Dark clouds initially threatened our swim, but eventually they gave way to the sun and we were able to enjoy some time together on their luxurious day beds. As a busy mom and dad plus pilot, an afternoon off being served perfectly chilled wine by the pool was just what I’d like to pretend my therapist says we needed!
In the evening, it was time to get fancy and dressed up for the Mandarin Oriental Macau’s exciting party celebrating 15 years since their doors first opened. Wearing Sau Lee, the beau and I headed to the event that ended up being quite a fun date night for us. Not only did we get to meet some pretty incredible people and get to chat about all things travel and food, but we also got to dine on some of Mandarin Oriental Macau’s best dishes. I’m still thinking about that limitless buffet offering incredible delicacies that the kitchen whips up for guests. That bresaola pizza still lives in my head rent-free!
Thank you to Mandarin Oriental Macau for inviting us for such an unforgettable weekend. Congratulations on 15 years!
Thank you to Mandarin Oriental Macau for hosting our stay. Although we were guests of Mandarin Oriental, all opinions written here are my own.
