Family Luxury // Rosewood Phnom Penh

When it comes to a place that our family loves to unwind, immerse ourselves in culture, and meet new people, we always think of Cambodia. Cambodia holds a very special place in our hearts, so when we decided to return to a place that feels like home to us, we chose to return to Phnom Penh – specifically the Rosewood Phnom Penh – two years after our first visit. Our Rosewood family welcomed us back with open arms, especially little bean, who was only 9-months old at the time of our first visit in 2023. Now a thriving toddler, we were excited to spend the week back in Phnom Penh with her at the Rosewood.

When you think of Rosewood, the words “luxury” and “modern” immediately come to my mind. Towering high above the ever-evolving and growing city of Phnom Penh, Rosewood Phnom Penh is a hidden gem in plain sight. After landing at the brand new Techo International Airport just outside of the city, driving into Phnom Penh and arriving at Rosewood felt like a dream come true. We had made so many happy memories during our first visit that returning again with little bean was something we were very eager to do.

Little bean immediately felt right at home at Rosewood Phnom Penh, with everyone greeting her by her name and making her feel extremely welcome. She wasted no time in diving into the lovely gifts the Rosewood team left in our room for their little explorer guest, and of course she squealed with glee when she noticed a robe and slippers just for her. However, nothing made her more excited than the gorgeous bathtub in our family suite. I have to admit that I was in love with this too, but while I was admiring the stunning view of Phnom Penh from the tub, my daughter was stoked at just how deep it was.

With little bean being a bit older now than our last visit to Rosewood Phnom Penh 2 years ago, the concierge team excitedly helped us plan an itinerary that allowed for sightseeing but also for some quiet family time. After delicious breakfasts each morning at Brasserie Louis, we would hop into Rosewood’s custom, luxurious remork and spend the morning out and about in the city by visiting our favourite spots such as the Royal Palace and Wat Phnom, but also discovering new sites to explore such as the National Museum of Cambodia and Central Market.

In the afternoon, we would come back to our home away from home at Rosewood Phnom Penh and indulge in lunch and afternoon tea. With the views of Phnom Penh almost permanently surrounding us 35 floors up in the sky, it was sometimes hard to hold a conversation without all of us taking time to admire the city. Even little bean would ask if she could go sit by the window to look at the city below, watching Vespas and remorks swerve around Phnom Penh’s streets.

Lunch at Cuts

After a busy morning exploring Phnom Penh, the strong midday sun and humidity meant it was time to take a break from the outdoors and return to the Rosewood Phnom Penh for a mouth-watering lunch. After a quick outfit change, we ventured upstairs to the top floor of the hotel for lunch at Cuts. We are no strangers to Cuts, but this time we were returning with our toddler who has a much wider palate now than she did at 9 months old! We ordered mocktails with 0% alcohol instead of cocktails so little bean could try a sip, but the cocktails looked pretty unique. Little bean was a big fan of the bread basket, but she was very eager to have a burger for lunch. Considering Cuts is a renowned steakhouse, we knew her burger would be amazing. The beau tried a bite and argued that it was probably the best burger he’s ever tasted – and he’s tried so many around the world! While little bean dove into her burger, the beau and I enjoyed delicious consommé and perfectly seared medium rare steak.

After filling our stomachs with multiple courses of impeccable meals, we take time in the afternoon to relax. For little bean, this means practically endless swimming in Rosewood Phnom Penh’s indoor rooftop pool, but for me this also means a serene 90-minute aromatherapy massage in Sense Spa.

Dinner at Brasserie Louis

After a long day, with the sun beginning to set over the bustling city, our little family of 3 happily dressed up for a multi-course Khmer dinner at Brasserie Louis. Khmer cuisine is one of my favourites, with every dish bursting with flavours that I have fallen deeply in love with. I grew up on the east coast of the US, where finding lemongrass, tamarind, and kampot pepper is not exactly common. We were more than happy to dine on spring rolls, Mekong river fish amok (one of Cambodia’s national dishes), and beef lok lak (my favourite Khmer dish!).

After another splendid week with Rosewood Phnom Penh, it was easy for us to see why we love coming here with little bean. We love returning to Cambodia as much as we can because of how much we learn about the country, the culture, the cuisine, and the history, but we also love returning often because of how welcoming everyone is towards us. Rosewood Phnom Penh would go out of their way to make sure every one of little bean’s needs were met, since every child is different, and made sure our family was comfortable at every turn. With Rosewood, every guest is treated like a VIP, but it speaks volumes when a luxurious property treats little ones like absolute royalty. It won’t be hard to convince little bean to return to Rosewood Phnom Penh again.

Thank you to Rosewood Phnom Penh for partnering on this post and hosting our stay. Although we were guests of Rosewood, my opinions here are entirely my own.
