Our final post on our anniversary trip with Visit Napa Valley concludes in Yountville, St. Helena, and downtown Napa. It had already been an amazing last few days in Napa Valley, and we were bummed to say goodbye to Bardessono. But now it was time to check in to our next destination, as there was still more to be explored. After checking out of Bardessono, we drove the short drive down the road to Hotel Yountville.
Our room wasn’t ready yet since it was quite early, but the hotel took care of our bags as we ventured out to grab lunch and try some more wine. The last time we were in Napa, a reader suggested we try Gott’s Roadside. We didn’t have time last time, so this was our chance. After placing our orders for cheeseburgers, garlic fries, and Oreo chocolate shakes (THE BEST SHAKE EVER), we devoured our lunch at the picnic tables and enjoyed our time outside.
After lunch, we drove around St. Helena for a bit before our next vineyard appointment. I don’t think I could get tired of driving around the rolling hills of Napa Valley, surrounded by thousands upon thousands of grapevines. Torrance and I got married at a vineyard because we both love the serenity of them. Okay okay, and because we love wine. But most of all, vineyards are certainly beautiful. I didn’t grow up around them; in fact, my first experience visiting Napa Valley wasn’t until 2015 while Tor and were wedding venue hunting.
But I don’t think I could ever get tired of visiting wine country, whether it be Napa Valley, Santa Barbara county, or Tuscany.
Tor and I chose to visit Frog’s Leap Winery because the last time we were in Napa, we dined at Press in St. Helena and we fell in love with a bottle of Frog’s Leap Chardonnay with our meal. Visiting Frog’s Leap quickly soared to the top of my list for when we returned, and so now was our chance.
After enjoying an afternoon at Frog’s Leap, it was time to head back to Hotel Yountville and check in. While heading to our room, I couldn’t help but notice how Hotel Yountville reminded me of the French countryside with it’s iron rod balconies and stone exteriors.
Once we entered our room, that sensation continued with the four poster bed surrounded by white curtains. After a quick change, we headed down to the pool to enjoy the last rays of sunshine for the day before dinner.
To wrap up our anniversary week in Napa Valley, we had dinner at The Corner Napa downtown. We had never been to downtown Napa, so this was a great way to end our trip. We dined on corn agnolotti (so delicious!), a refreshing seafood tagliatelle, and steak with cauliflower puree (my favorite side dish) all while enjoying delicious glasses of local chardonnay and rosé.
There was even a cocktail titled the Coombs Old Fashioned, which of course Tor had to try! The restaurant is right along the river, making it the perfect spot to take a walk before or after dinner. Plus, it’s located one block away from Coombs Street, so I think we were always destined to dine at The Corner Napa.
The next morning, Tor and I sat by the fireplace as we dined on eggs and chocolate croissants. We reflected on our past week in Napa Valley to celebrate seven years together and how much we want to return again very soon. But Hotel Yountville still had one more treat for us in store. When I opened our door on the patio for some fresh morning air, I turned to my right and saw the most adorable grey fox curled up on our armchair. I squealed with glee and immediately called Tor over, who also gasped and cooed at the sweet face looking up at us.
We found out his name is Frank and that he’s a regular at Hotel Yountville. Normally he scoots off before 9 am, but it was now 11:30 am and he was still all comfy. Selfishly we assumed it’s became he sensed how much we loved having him there, plus we sweetly chatted with him as if we were longtime friends (by now we were missing our fur babies back at home like crazy). He was incredibly sweet and completely harmless, and he seemed very curious about Tor and I. It was the best way to end our trip.
We couldn’t have had a better week in Calistoga, St. Helena, and Yountville with Visit Napa Valley. While we got to experience and see so much, there’s still even more of Napa Valley yet to be discovered that we cannot wait to visit. It really is the perfect escape for young lovebirds.
Thanks to Visit Napa Valley, Hotel Yountville and The Corner Napa for hosting us. As always, opinions are my own.
