MLM top (also available in pink gingham and black), Black Orchid jeans c/o, Dior sunglasses, Rebecca Minkoff bag, Aquazzura shoes (currently on sale!)
Originally we planned on starting our Italian holiday in Rome, but the thought of traveling all over Italy in just a week and a half sounded a bit too exhausting. So, we figured out which cities we really wanted to hit up on this trip and it turned out to be mostly a tour of northern Italy. Since I was most anxious to visit Portofino on our Italian adventure, we thought it made sense to fly into Milan from Madrid and stay one night before continuing on to the Italian Riviera. We flew Iberia (which I would happily fly again) and arrived in Milan just before lunchtime. After gathering ourselves at our hotel (we stayed at Hotel Square Milano Duomo), we headed out to visit a spot that Tor had been dying to visit - Bar Luce! This quirky cafe seems like it's in the middle of nowhere, but that's what makes it a hidden treasure. It was designed by Tor's favorite filmmaker, Wes Andersen, and there's no mistaking that from the moment you walk in. Tor was all smiles, even if he couldn't beat his original score at the Zissou pinball machine! Next up, we hit the most iconic landmark in Milan - the Duomo. Outside, we got caught amongst a flock of pigeons and naturally we captured the moment! I had never seen anything like the Duomo. It's an absolutely stunning building on the outside, but on the inside I felt like I had teleported to another, beautifully gothic world. For dinner, we decided to try a restaurant that was rated highly on TripAdvisor near the Duomo called La Locanda del Gatto Rosso (yes, the restaurant's name is about a cat of course!). Naturally, since I was officially in Italy, I was craving pasta and that's what I ordered. It was delicious! Our view wasn't half bad either! For our one day in Milan, I kept it casual wore this MLM top (but covered with this Banana Republic cardigan for when I entered the cathedral out of respect) and Black Orchid jeans. Since we were walking around so much, I wore my Aquazzura flats (currently on sale at Net-a-Porter!) which are super comfortable! Before the night was done, we were craving some Italian gelato. We heard great things about Ciocolatti Italiani and OH MY GOSH. I would have stayed in Milan another night just to have that gelato again! First, if you order a waffle cone, they have you choose what kind of melted chocolate you want poured into your cone (I chose white chocolate), then you can get up to three flavors of gelato (I had two - chocolate and vanilla). The way they layer the flavors is like art! I was too busy Snapchatting the experience so I didn't get to snap a pic of the process, but try it for yourself and you'll see why I went nuts for this place!
Stay tuned for our next Italian destination (and one I am super excited to talk about!) - Portofino!
After spending five days in Madrid, it was time to pack our bags to officially begin our honeymoon – in Italy! Italy has been at the top of my list of places I need to see before I die since I first learned as child that I am half Italian (my maiden name is Campanella – can’t get more Italian than that!). When my husband found out he would be filming in Europe shortly after our wedding, there was no question as to where we should go for our honeymoon – Italy.
