I have been traveling a lot over the past month. From Toronto to New York to San Francisco to Los Angeles, I am pretty much on a plane about once a week these days! This week, I am traveling to Dallas, Texas. Recently, I have been asked by many what do I put in my carry on? I usually tend to overpack my carry on because one of my biggest fears is becoming bored while in the air, but lately I have been kinder to my tote bags (and shoulders!) by packing a little bit lighter. Here are some of my necessities:
~ Passport – Even if I am not traveling over or across the border, I prefer to use my passport as a source of identification for security.
~ Wallet
~ Planner – Typically wherever I am going there is a schedule set, and I am OCD when it comes to keeping my schedule organized and at my fingertips (I think I became this way after my busy reign as Miss USA)
~ Mophie Juice Pack Plus Case – This battery case is a life saver. Since I am always on the go and stopping plus searching for an outlet to charge my phone isn’t always an option, this phone case charges my phone over 120%!
~ Bose® QuietComfort® 15 Acoustic Noise Cancelling® Headphones & iPod Nano – The key words are in the name of the headphones – noise cancelling. It tunes out any sounds (engine noises, screaming children, etc) and is perfect for listening to music on my iPod or watching a movie on my computer.
~ Laptop & charging cord – I tend to choose flights on airlines that have wifi (such as American, Virgin America, and Southwest) so I can work while in the air.
~ In the Footsteps of Anne Boleyn – I always bring a book to read when I travel, not just for flights but also to read before I go to sleep. Currently I am reading In the Footsteps of Anne Boleyn by Sarah Morris and Natalie Grueninger. If you are a history nerd, especially a Tudor history nerd, this book is a must!
~ Notebook – I tend to get inspired at the most random times during the day and I like having my notebook handy to jot them down.
~ Boscia Self-Defense Vital Antioxidant Moisture SPF 30 – I tend not to wear makeup when I fly unless I have something very important as soon as I land. But flying can dehydrate your skin, so I bring my moisturizer onboard with me and apply mid-flight.
For a carry on bag, I like to use my new monogrammed St. Anne Tote from Barrington Gifts. I also carry on my Nikon camera in its own separate camera bag with its respective lenses.

Love hearing about your travels and tips!
First off I would like to say excellent blog!
I had a quick question which I’d like to ask if you don’t mind.
I was curious to know how you center yourself and clear your
head before writing. I have had a hard time clearing my thoughts in getting my ideas out.
I do enjoy writing however it just seems like the
first 10 to 15 minutes tend to be wasted simply just trying to figure out how to begin. Any suggestions or hints?
Many thanks!
