Sometimes when you visit a place more than once, there’s a spot or two that you just need to revisit. In Phnom Penh, it’s the royal palace and Wat Phnom. Both are rich in history (and myths), and both are beautiful, peaceful monuments in such a busy, bustling, and thriving city. We visited in the early afternoon, during lunch hour, which meant the temple was extremely quiet and not full of tourists.
We last visited Wat Phnom last year, since it was in a convenient location from our hotel. However, since we brought our stroller, along with many other things a young baby needs, and the temple features a lot of steps, we were not able to venture to the top. This time, with little bean being a little older, she wanted to climb the steps herself and we folded the stroller up to bring to the top.

I previously spoke about the history of Wat Phnom in this post here, and it’s definitely worth a read about this beautiful spot just a stone’s throw from the Mekong River. It feels like a tranquil escape surrounded by lush greenery and the aroma of incense without even remembering that a very busy roundabout full of cars and remorks are circling you below. There are several gorgeous temples in Phnom Penh, but a stop at the iconic Wat Phnom should definitely be on your list.
