This is a bit of a later post, but it’s never too early to start planning for Lunar New Year. This year was little bean’s second Lunar New Year since she was born, but it was the first one she was fully able to enjoy. From fireworks to dragons everywhere, she was in awe of the way her home city of Hong Kong lit up for the most special day of the year. What made it even more special was getting to spend Lunar New Year at the one and only Four Seasons Place, giving us a prime view of the first Lunar New Year fireworks display in Hong Kong in 5 years. We are no strangers to the Four Seasons, but this was our first time bringing little bean along with us.
It was also her first official staycation in Hong Kong, so getting to stay here for Lunar New Year made it all the more special. From the moment we arrived, little bean was treated like a little celebrity, with everyone stopping to say hello and wish her “Gong hei fat choy” (or 恭喜发财). Even more sweet was when the concierge team offered her a cute little dragon toy she was eyeing as we checked in, perfect for the start of the Year of the Dragon.
As much as we were hoping for little bean to watch her first Lunar New Year fireworks show from the comfort of our suite, 8 pm was just too much of a stretch for her to stay up. She wanted to go to sleep at her usual 7 pm, and so after a lovely (and rather splashy!) bath in our suite’s deep bathtub, we got her dressed and ready for bed. Before we knew it, she was already sleeping and dreaming happily in her crib next to our bed, which meant the beau and I had some time to ourselves to watch the fireworks show. We ordered in some room service, popped open a bottle of wine, and waited for the show to begin. Of course I had to don the perfect red dress for the occasion, since this was a new experience for me, too.
I moved to Hong Kong in November 2019, and considering there were no fireworks for several years due to the COVID pandemic, this was my first time getting to experience Hong Kong at Lunar New Year without restrictions. This meant it was my first time watching their fireworks show as well. For 20 minutes, fireworks dazzled in many colors, especially red and yellow, above Victoria Harbour. Thanks to her white noise machine, little bean slept through them soundly, but it’s a bit of a shame because she missed such a wonderful show. With our Hainanese chicken and beef noodles at the ready, we devoured our dinner while getting a front row view of the fireworks display.
The next morning, we woke up just after sunrise to little bean cooing in her crib. After some comfy family snuggles in the big bed, we gathered ourselves and went downstairs to the neighboring Four Seasons hotel’s lobby for a buffet breakfast at Argo. While we could have happily cooked some delicious breakfast in our suite kitchen, or ordered in room service, we couldn’t pass up the chance to eat at Argo. The idea of a buffet with multiple cuisines and multiple new tastes for little bean to try seemed like a great opportunity.
After such a wonderful night in town celebrating Lunar New Year, it was soon time to say goodbye for now. It was absolutely wonderful getting to spend the holiday with little bean at Four Seasons Place. Traveling with kids is not always easy, but home away from home gems really do go out of their way to make it less daunting and more exciting. I am already looking forward to the next time I get to bring little bean here again. Four Seasons Place is really a great spot in Hong Kong to stay with kids, especially for a long stay.
Thank you to the Four Seasons Place for hosting and partnering on this post. Although we were guests of Four Seasons, all opinions are my own.
