Defining My Style

Just like people can change, so can style. Since I started blogging in 2014, there has been an evident style evolution on my blog. The fun part has been identifying and defining my style. Having a blog gives me the chance to do that. I treat it like a diary and photo album as I watch my fashion sense evolve, and then share it with all of my devoted readers who draw inspiration from it.
So what inspires me and influenced me to define my style? For a while, I relied heavily on foreign fashion magazines, especially Porter, Marie Claire UK, Instyle UK, Vogue Paris and UK, and People Stylewatch. I have always felt more driven and inspired by European fashion, particularly the UK (those who know about my history obsession won't be surprised by that at all!), so that's why I used to obsess over those magazine subscriptions. [gallery link="none" columns="2" size="full" ids="12110,12104"] [gallery link="none" columns="2" size="full" ids="12105,12101"] Lately, I've also turned to Instagram and Pinterest for more inspiration. After our trip to Europe this past January, I felt like my closet needed an overhaul. I tend to go through my closet every 3 months, but I find a good closet cleaning is the perfect first step to defining my style. For those who will ask, I tend to consign the designer pieces barely worn, sell high end pieces, and donate more worn pieces. It featured a little bit of everything. It confused me, it confused my readers, and it definitely confused brands. After years as a model where my fashion sense was mainly tank tops and skinny jeans for castings, and then after spending a year as Miss USA where I had stylists picking out my clothes for me and telling me what to wear, I pretty much went through a style identity crisis. I was actually having difficulty defining my style. JOA top, Milly skirt (similar here; also love this one and this one), Serena & Lily belt (last seen here, similar here), Schutz heels (on sale here), Nannacay bag (I also have one in red; also love the rainbow version and orange version), Celine sunglasses (old, similar here)

[gallery link="none" columns="2" size="full" ids="12114,12106"] [gallery link="none" columns="2" size="full" ids="12118,12112"] Over the last few months, especially during my site redesign and rebranding, I finally came to the ultimate conclusion of what my style is. My style is romantic, feminine, and bold. While I feel like I have always been dressing myself to reflect that, it's really hit me this past year that that's my true aesthetic and not shy away from it. As a blogger, I feel a lot more honest with my own readers knowing that I am dressing for me now and what I feel is my true sense of style. I am sure as the years go on with this site, my style will evolve. That is pretty inevitable, but it'll always be romantic, feminine, and bold. That skirt is gorgeous <3 I would love to see a post featuring your Holy Grail make-up products, just like your previous post on skincare! I am fair-skinned like you, and I am still searching for the perfect red lipstick.

Hi Erika! Thanks for the suggestion! I will look into doing a makeup post very soon 🙂

This outfit is amazing 😍 The skirt is beautiful and blue is my favourite color! Like you did during the past years, I’m trying to understand what my style is; I always have you and Kate Middleton as style icons and I would like to have a more elegant, feminine and romantic style but I’m too shy and I’m afraid of people judgment

    • The A List

Awww I am so flattered to be considered one of your style icons alongside Kate Middleton (I am pretty obsessed with her and her style myself!). Never be concerned about other people judging you. I had a hard time with that initially, which is why my style was kind of all over the place. When I finally started to just dress for me and not for them, I wasn’t too shy anymore 🙂

Love, love this style! And you look great!

      Thank you so much!

Breathtaking as always! Have you ever thought about creating your own fashion line, if you haven’t already? Also, I’d love it if you could write an article sharing your exercise routine, thanks 🙂

    • The A List

Hi Isabelle! I haven’t really thought about it lately… I’m not sure that’s a goal just yet but maybe in the future! Also don’t hate me but I don’t have an exercise routine 🙁 I am so bad… I need to get to the gym more, though!

      • Isabelle

Haha I had a feeling you would say that, but you’re very lucky then! I’m getting pretty lazy myself :/ Thanks and looking forward to reading your next post 😀

Hey, I come from germany. I follow your blog quite a while. I like the blog very well;) I have to look up the words sometimes, but that becomes less and less;) ..
I like your transformation in your style!
I look forward to your next entries! See you soon, dear Anna

In love with this blue skirt! Absolutely beautiful! It’s rare I fall in love with anything that’s not workout attire, but there are occasions I like to look feminine and this skirt screams to me. 🙂

Alyssa, absolutely adore your style! I’m currently having an identity crisis with my fashion sense so it’s nice to know I’m not the only one! Hope you and Tor are enjoying your holiday up north. Best Regards xx
