Summer in New Jersey means it’s time to pick some delicious, juicy peaches at the orchard and make yummy peach pie or even a peach and burrata salad. The last time we were in New Jersey, I took a then 6-month old little bean to the same orchard I used to go to all the time as a little girl – Battleview Orchards – because it was literally behind my childhood home in Manalapan. During that visit, we picked fresh strawberries because it was springtime. Now we were visiting in summer, which is prime time for picking the best peaches.
Since the days were extremely hot, we went to the orchard first thing in the morning. This was little bean’s first orchard experience, and at first she was a little unsure about why we were walking through so many trees. When she saw all the peaches on the trees, her eyes widened with excitement. She wanted to pick them all, although I had to remind her we only needed to pick a few. Getting to witness my daughter frolic through the same orchard I did in my hometown gave me all sorts of warm feelings.

After we picked our peaches, little bean and I trekked over to the orchard’s store to look for some more goodies. This is something I miss about my hometown. I loved going to the country store for fresh pies, fresh bread, fresh fruit, and fresh vegetables. Little bean picked out a nice juicy watermelon, and I picked out some donuts. In the autumn, there would be fresh apple cider for purchase which is my absolute favorite.
I loved making these memories with my daughter in my hometown of Manalapan. I was disappointed that the beau couldn’t join us, as that was the original plan, but he had a flight delay which meant we didn’t get to see him until later that afternoon. That just means we will have to go back again. The beau is a big fan of autumn and adores Halloween, and I really want my fresh apple cider, so I think we need to plan an autumn visit.
