Romantic Dinner in Milan

Since becoming parents, date nights have become even more precious and special to us. They don’t happen as often as they did before we welcomed little bean, so whenever we travel without our darling little one we always make sure to have a fabulous date night while abroad. We know little bean is happy and settled at home, so now we can relax and enjoy some time together. For our trip to Milan, the beau left all dining plans to me since he knows I love looking up the best spots. I was more than up to the task of finding the perfect restaurant for a romantic dinner in Milan with the beau. There are so many options to choose from. While I was definitely going to be hunting down the best pizza, pasta, and gelato during our Milan visit, I was determined to find a spot that would go above and beyond highlighting some of the best of Milanese cuisine.

We traveled to Milan in early August, which surprisingly meant a lot of Milan’s best restaurants were closed to give their employees a bit of a summer holiday before the autumn and busy fashion week season begins. But one of Milan’s most highly rated restaurants still happened to be open during our visit, so I made sure to make a reservation. As soon as we arrived at Cantine Milano, the beau knew right away that I had picked a great restaurant for a lovely date night. While the interior looked like an ultra sleek and modern wine cellar, we opted to sit outside on their elegant patio. We were eating a bit early for dinner, since our body clocks were still on Hong Kong time, so we had the patio to ourselves for a bit before it began filling up. For a second I even forgot we were in Italy, as the privacy of the hedges on the patio made us feel like we had this intimate space all on our own.

What We Ate at Cantine

There’s an a la carte menu at Cantine, but we decided to go with the 3-course dinner with a wine pairing. I absolutely LOVE when a wine pairing is offered with a multi-course meal because both the wine and the food should compliment each other and flow beautifully together. Over a couple of hours, just as the sun was beginning to set, we indulged in meatballs, pasta, beef, and polenta as we sipped both white and red wines throughout the evening. The multi-course dinner changes seasonally, and trust me, this wasn’t your average every day meatballs and pasta. Each dish was carefully thought out and sinfully delicious with each bite.
