I know the Christmas season has quickly come and gone once again, but that doesn’t mean it’s too early to start thinking about next year’s holiday travel plans, right? This year, the beau and I got to finally visit Macau together in the lead up to Christmas. Macau had been on my list pretty much as soon as I first visited Hong Kong, but with the pandemic that was impossible until earlier this year after both Macau and Hong Kong reopened their borders. Christmas is a magical time to visit Macau, so we figured this was the perfect time for my first visit. The special administrative region is decked out from head to toe in Christmas decor, and you can hear Christmas music as you walk down the street especially in Cotai.

When we made the choice to return to Cambodia with baby bean, there were two "must do's" on our itinerary - a visit to the royal palace and a visit to at least one temple. We were only there for a couple of days, so we wanted to make sure we had enough time to see some of the sights we wanted to. Both the Royal Palace and Wat Phnom Temple were only either a 10 minute walk or 10 minute remork ride from our hotel Rosewood Phnom Penh, which made them ideal to visit with a 9-month old baby.

Temples and Palaces in Phnom Penh

I first visited Cambodia in September 2019, when the beau and I took an adventurous trip to Siem Reap at the beginning of our relationship. We got to visit temples, dine off the grid, and explore a new city and country for us both. I felt a special connection to Cambodia. I’m not sure if it was through the delicious Khmer cuisine or the impressive art, but I kept telling the beau that once travel reopened, I was hoping to return to Cambodia as soon as possible. Not only did we finally get to make that daydream come true, but we got to bring along our special VIP – our darling bean.

Family Escape to Rosewood Phnom Penh

Even though this was my second time in Taipei, there was still so much to explore that I had not been able to on my first visit back in 2019. I was eager to see Taipei streets, parks, hiking trails, and of course get my hands on some traditional Taiwanese food such as beef noodles and xiao long bao. Taipei is a very large city and has so much to offer in terms of culture and tourism. In 2019, I had the opportunity to see the National Palace Museum and the National Theater, so I was excited to see what else there was to explore in Taipei.

Exploring Taipei

Taipei is an easy destination for us with it being only an hour flight from Hong Kong. I felt this was the perfect opportunity to kick off our summer travels as well as introduce the bean to flying and international travel. For our first family vacation, Taipei proved to be an excellent starting point. Not only was it wonderful getting to visit the city again, it was great getting to explore new sites as well. Even with three days in Taipei, we still didn't get to see and do everything we wanted to because there's just so much to explore.

Asaya and Restoring Mums // Rosewood Hong Kong

After spending a few days on the northern coast of Hokkaido in Otaru, we hopped in the car and trekked inwards towards the mountains and lakes for a weekend escape in nature. About 2.5 hours south of Otaru, and about an hour south of Sapporo, is the stunning Lake Shikotsu. Lake Shikotsu is a deep caldera lake, surrounded by 3 active volcanoes - Mount Eniwa, Mount Tarumae, and Mount Fuppushi. As we drove in from the north, stopping alongside the Izari River to take in the gorgeous, wintry nature of Hokkaido, we drove down alongside Mount Eniwa before the lake suddenly appeared.

A Weekend By The Lake // Lake Shikotsu

Sapporo was the last stop on our 8-day adventure around Hokkaido. I knew I couldn't come to the region without spending a few days in the capital. Despite only spending 2 nights in Sapporo, and despite our visit feeling a bit rushed, I still really, really enjoyed my time there. It was a great way to end my first visit to Japan.

Last year was our first summer with our precious little Luca. He wasn't even one year old yet, but we thought it would be fun to introduce him to a little travel since hopefully he will be traveling more often later in his life. One thing I love about Hong Kong is the city's ability to beautifully blend modern and contemporary with the classical and antiquity.
