Whenever we plan for a trip, my husband leaves finding the perfect hotel to me (except in Venice – he took over for that one!). In Salzburg, there was really only one hotel that I was anxious to stay at and ever since our visit, I have been super excited to share all about the charming hotel we stayed in for our weekend in Austria – the Hotel Sacher Salzburg. When we pulled up to our hotel after our train ride in from Munich, even my husband was impressed. I was, too, especially since it was already decked out for Christmas. That’s one way to get me excited!
The hotel is situated on the north bank of the River Salzach and looks like a little pink palace. Our bags were immediately taken off of our hands and we took a moment to admire the lobby and its grand staircase. As a member of the Leading Hotels of the World, the hotel was built in 1866 and still oozes the same elegance and attention to detail from that time to today.
For our first morning in Salzburg, we decided to take it easy and order some room service. After sleeping like royalty at Sacher (where royals and dignitaries have been known to stay before), we felt breakfast in bed fit for a king and queen was a great way to start the day. An impressive basket of breads and tray of condiments and treats accompanied our delicious herbed eggs and tomatoes.
Since I am allergic to coffee and not a tea drinker, plus we were staying in a hotel that was famous for its chocolate, it was only right that I order a pot of their decadent hot chocolate. When I dream of the perfect hot chocolate, especially at Christmastime, that pot of hot chocolate was my dream come to life. It was so delicious that I ended up getting another one after lunch down at their café!
We certainly felt like Austrian royalty during our stay, and we would happily recommend at least a night here to relish in the grand splendor that is Sacher Salzburg!
I used to live in Austria and loved reminiscing through this post! Your pictures are always so lovely! If I had to try to take such shots, my food would be cold by then! lol
